MUARA, Tuesday, 07 July 2020 – A 2 day Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Bilateral Exercise between the United States Armed Forces (U.S. Armed Forces) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF)  was held online via video teleconference for the first time today at the Multi National Coordination Centre (MNCC), Muara.

The IPC was co-chaired by Lieutenant Colonel (U) Radhuan bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Staff Officer Grade 1 J7 (Joint Training), Joint Force Headquarters RBAF and Captain Mark Asuncion, USN Assistant Chief of Staff to International Strategy and Engagement. The IPC was also attended by representatives from participating units in both Armed Forces.

During the conference, the participants discussed possible activities, dates, venues, sequence of events, and further planning details for the successful conduct of 26th CARAT 2020. The IPC also discussed exercise organisational structure, other exercise logistical and administrative matters. The 26th CARAT which will be held this year is proposed to be held either through online Symposiums and SMEE or by conducting the exercises in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health due to COVID-19.

The 26th CARAT 2020 is aimed to increase the level of proficiency and interoperability between the RBAF, other governmental agencies in Brunei Darussalam as well as the U.S. Armed Forces personnel in addressing current and future contemporary and complex threats.
