ROYAL BRUNEI ARMED FORCES (RBAF) PARTICIPATES IN THE 15TH SENIOR WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL RULES GOVERNING MILITARY OPERATIONS

BALI, INDONESIA, 20 – 26 November 2022 - The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) participated in the 15th Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operations (SWIRMO) held in Bali, Indonesia. Representing the RBAF was Lieutenant Colonel (U) Mohd Anwar Shah bin Haji Napiah from the Joint Force Headquarters RBAF (JFHQ).

The seminar was co-hosted by the The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI). It was attended by over 130 senior military officers from around 85 countries. The seminar was opened by Dr Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of the ICRC, and the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces represented by Major General Sonny Aprianto, the Commander of Regional Military Command IX/ Udayana.

SWIRMO allows participants to share views and experiences on the international legal framework applicable to modern military operations. It also provides participants with the tools necessary to integrate those laws into the most relevant aspects of their national doctrine, education, field training and military disciplinary systems, encouraging legally compliant behaviour across the entire spectrum of military operations.

It also seeks to ensure that International Humanitarian Law (IHL or the Law of Armed Conflict), which is the legal framework that protects those who are not or no longer participating in hostilities are implemented and that the principles governing the use of force in law enforcement operations are better integrated into military institutions.








ANGKATAN BERSENJATA DIRAJA BRUNEI (ABDB) MENYERTAI 15TH SENIOR WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL RULES GOVERNING MILITARY OPERATIONS

BALI, INDONESIA, 20 – 26 November 2022 – Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) telah menyertai 15th Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operations (SWIRMO) bertempat di Bali, Indonesia. Mewakili ABDB ialah Leftenan Kolonel (U) Mohd Anwar Shah bin Haji Napiah dari Markas Angkatan Bersama ABDB.

Seminar tersebut telah dianjurkan bersama oleh The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) dan Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI). Ianya telah dihadiri oleh 130 pegawai kanan tentera dari 85 negara. Seminar tersebut telah dirasmikan oleh Dr Gilles Carbonnier, Naib Presiden ICRC, dan Panglima TNI yang diwakili oleh Mejar Jeneral Sonny Aprianto, Panglima Komando Wilayah IX/Udayana.

SWIRMO membolehkan peserta berkongsi pandangan dan pengalaman mengenai rangka kerja perundangan antarabangsa yang digunakan untuk operasi ketenteraan moden. Ianya juga telah  menyediakan peserta dengan keperluan bagi  mengintegrasikan undang-undang tersebut ke dalam aspek yang paling relevan dalam doktrin, pendidikan, latihan dan sistem disiplin ketenteraan bagi, menggalakkan tingkah laku yang mematuhi undang-undang kepada keseluruhan spektrum operasi ketenteraan.

Ianya juga bertujuan untuk memastikan undang-undang kemanusiaan antarabangsa (International Humanitarian Law atau Law of Armed Conflict), yang merupakan rangka kerja undang-undang yang melindungi orang yang tidak atau tidak lagi mengambil bahagian dalam sebarang konflik dipatuhi dan prinsip yang mengawal penggunaan kekerasan dalam penguatkuasaan undang-undang akan dapat di integrasikan dengan lebih baik di dalam ketenteraan.
