MNCC, MUARA, Tuesday, 14 July 2020 – The closing ceremony for Exercise Penguin Air Phase Series 01/2020 was held today at MNCC, Muara. Exercise Penguin was conducted from 1 July 2020 until 14 July 2020. This year, the exercise saw the first joint effort involving assets from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Royal Australian Air Force such as the P-8 Military surveillence aircraft from Royal Australian Air Force(RAAirF), Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ), Patrol Vessels from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Blackhawk Helicopters from the Royal Brunei Airforce (RBAirF).
Present as the Guest of Honour from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces was Colonel Norhazalan bin Haji Abdullah, Chief of Staff Joint Force Headquarters, Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Also present at the closing ceremony were Lieutenant Colonel Dan Hauser, Australian Assistant Defence Attache to Brunei Darussalam, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Radhuan bin Haji Hamid from JFHQ, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Hismawadi bin Hj Mohd Said from RBAirF, Commander Nor Ariffin bin Mohd Ali from RBN, as well as senior officers from JFHQ, RBN, RBAirF and also other representatives from Royal Australian Defence Forces.
The Ceremony began with closing remarks from Squadron Leader Adam Steff. In his remarks, RAAF expressed satisfaction towards the success of the conduct of the exercise. The ceremony concluded with an exchange of mementos and photo session.
Exercise Penguin is regarded as an important platform for strengthening military cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Australia. The exercise allows the enhancement of military planning and interoperability, integrated of assets, info and experience sharing through Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) between both military at multiple levels.
