FOUR ROYAL BRUNEI ARMED FORCES OFFICERS ATTENDED THE GLOBAL PEACE OPERATIONS INITIATIVE (GPOI) MULTINATIONAL PEACEKEEPING EXERCISE (MPE) KERIS AMAN II


PORT DICKSON MALAYSIA, Saturday, 26 August 2023 – Four RBAF officers attended the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise (MPE) KERIS AMAN II from 13 August to 26 August 2023. This exercise involved  849 participants from over 23 countries, co-hosted by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and the United States Indo-Pacific Command's (USINDOPACOM) held in the Malaysian Peacekeeping Center, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Major General Fazal Abdul Rahman, Chief of Staff of the Joint Force Command MAF along with Michael Smith, Director of the Office of Global Programs and Initiatives, U.S. Department of State.

The Peacekeeping (PKO) exercise was conducted into three segments; the Staff Training Event (STE), Field Training Event (FTE) and Critical Enabler Capability Enhancement (2CE). The STE focused on improving multinational readiness and coordination in a United Nations (UN) Force Headquarters and at operational level environment, whereas for the FTE is to enhance the capacity of troops to train, plan, prepare, manage and conduct PKO at the tactical level. The 2CE comprises of various Subject-Matter-Expert-Exchanges in the field of technical, engineering, ordinance disposal and medicine. In addition, the STE prepares staff officers in understanding the common operational picture of peacekeeping missions and the challenges that lie within. While the FTE and 2CE acts as a pre-requirement training for troops being earmarked for deployment to UN PKO missions.

The next iteration of the GPOI program will be held in Nepal themed Exercise SHANTI PRAYAS in 2024. Brunei Darussalam has always undertaken an active and participative role in PKO's with continued support for the United Nation Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission since 2008.
